I'z confuuuuuzed.

So I'll ask all y'all.

Poll #1712244 Confuzzulation!

What is the proper response to a bad performance review?

Complain that expectations are too high?
Try to do better?
Ask to be moved to part time?
Make a plan to improve performance... and follow it?
Who cares?

Current Mood: confusedconfused

Presumably there's some feedback that went with the performance review?

You sort of have to ask why is the review not what you'd like: Were they expecting unrealistic things, were they not appreciating what you did properly, was this because of company politics, etc.

Depending on why it happened, your proper response can be rather different. (Possibly missing from the list: "find a different employer.")

Technically, my confusion is over a co-worker's response to her annual review (which has included a variety of not-included behaviors. Even with a good review, I have things to work on and goals I want to meet. I find it baffling to not at least try and find a way to meet expectations, or at least present a logical argument for why the expectations are too high.
